GroupUp is no longer just an idea
The mobile app is now in beta: accounts, onboarding, profile photos, groups, events, map discovery, chats, friends, pushes, and moderation are part of the product. The landing page should reflect that current state instead of reading like an old teaser.
Mobile beta
iOS and Android builds run through EAS and stores while we actively fold in user feedback and fixes.
Real core flows
Onboarding, groups, matching, events, chat, friendships, and pushes are connected in the app.
Still improving
Design, store presence, moderation, admin tooling, and stability are being sharpened before a broader launch.
How it works
You are out with friends or solo in a new city and want to meet people who actually want to do something.
Complete your profile and create a group or start solo
Set status, interests, radius, and comfort filters
Find matching groups or events, request, match, and plan in chat
An idea becomes a concrete plan: you know who is coming, where to meet, and what you are up for.
What GroupUp does today
The current state of the app: a mobile beta with groups, matching, events, map discovery, chat, friends, and safety features.
Group-to-group matching
Create a group, add friends or start solo, and find other groups that fit your interests, radius, and plans. The focus is on real meetups, not endless small talk.
Want to go out tonight? Set your status, review matching groups, and move into group chat when both sides are interested.
Activity status & filters
Groups can show what they are up for: going out, coffee, exploring the city, or other activities. Radius, interests, and comfort filters make suggestions more relevant.
Set coffee as your status, choose a radius, see nearby groups, and start a request without searching forever.
Join groups & invite people
Discover existing groups, send join requests, or invite individual people to form a new group together. Groups stay in control of who joins.
Find an active group nearby, send a short request, and become part of the group once accepted.
Group events
Groups can create events and activities, manage participants, and accept or reject requests. Public events are meant for discovery; private activities stay more controlled.
A group creates a coffee meetup or evening activity. Others can view details and join or request access.
Map & discovery
The Discover view shows groups, people, and events in local context. The map helps you see what is happening nearby and jump into details or requests.
Events and groups appear within your radius. Tap one to see details, members, and next actions.
Live updates & push notifications
Badges, chat state, and relevant push notifications keep you informed. If you are currently inside a chat, pushes for that thread are suppressed to avoid spam.
Not in the chat? You get a push. Reading the thread already? The message appears live in the app.
Chats for groups, matches, and events
After matches or event confirmations, you can message directly in the app, agree on a meeting point, and make the plan concrete. Group and event context stays together.
After a match, you immediately align on where to meet, when to show up, and who is joining.
Friends & connections
People you meet through GroupUp can become friends. Profile IDs, friend lists, and invitations make the connection useful after the meetup too.
After a good meetup, add each other and later form new groups or invite each other again.
Profiles with photos and interests
Profiles include multiple photos, interests, languages, and personal details. In beta, it is clearer that at least three profile photos are required.
Your profile shows photos, bio, interests, and languages so others can better judge whether you fit.
Location-based discovery
GroupUp uses location and radius to show relevant groups and events nearby. Discovery is built around local activity and continues to improve during beta.
In a new city, you can find active groups and events around you more quickly.
Choose your comfort zone
GroupUp is in beta, but safety is already part of the core: profile photos are moderated, groups can review requests, and filters help you find better connections.
Group context
You see which group or activity someone is part of instead of matching completely blind.
Requests, not pressure
Groups can accept or reject join and event requests.
Moderated profiles
Profile photos are checked and unsuitable uploads can be removed.
The beta is actively evolving. Feedback helps us improve matching, safety, and onboarding.
